Meet the Tutors

FRIDAY GROUP TUTOR

Newton is a local artist who has played an important part in Dalkeith Arts over the years. He specialises in oil landscapes of the west coast of Scotland where he was born and brought up. Newton is the main tutor on Fridays and also hosts some of our weekend sessions. His natural tutor skills enable students to learn in a comfortable and stress free environment.

MIXED MEDIA

“I am a Dalkeith based artist, with a degree in Design and Applied Arts from Edinburgh College of Art. I am currently concentrating on needle felting and painting contemporary images of Scottish scenes and landmarks.

My speciality is original paintings using acrylic on canvas. I use acrylic as a medium due to its versatility in creating colourful, textured and vibrant images. Having grown up in the Scottish Highlands, I am inspired by strong colours, changing light and dramatic skies. This continues to influence my work as I seek to capture the changing atmosphere in the land and sea.”

FRIDAY NEWBIES GROUP TUTOR

"My original roles as committee member, then Chair, and now team member have all been about the organization and development of our work at Dalkeith Arts. I now have a new role to add to the list, as tutor for the Newbies. When new people join the class it can be very intimidating as there are about 25 artists all confidently getting on with their projects. We came up with the idea to create an area where the new members could sit together as a group and while they were finding their feet, enjoy short warm up exercises which I prepare and share. It’s proved to be very successful."

NEEDLEFELTING

Heather is a crafter extraordinaire. She is an experienced group worker with a passion for sharing her expertise. She currently tutors our monthly Felting Classes where she takes participants through the various stages of creating 3D sculptures and 2D images from wool.

MIXED MEDIA

Margaret enjoys taking students through a step by step journey to a completed painting. She is happy to share her huge library of technical knowledge with all comers.

Margaret loves colour and is a popular tutor whose classes are fun and informative.
