FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I sign up for a class?

It’s quick and easy – pick a class you’d like to join from our term schedule and send us an email at dalkeitharts1@gmail.com with the date and name of the class you’d like to sign up for. If you would like to join our Friday Art Group, simply send us an email titled ‘Friday Group’ and we’ll book you in for a free taster session.

Please note that our weekend classes have a limited capacity, so it’s always worth booking your spot as early as you can. Also, please let us know if your plans change and you can no longer attend the class, so that we can offer your place to another artist.

How much does a class cost and how do I pay?

Our Friday group membership is priced at £30 for an 8 week term. Payments are to be made via bank transfer at the start of each 8 week term – we’ll provide you with all the details you need when you join the group.

Our weekend classes are priced £13, unless stated otherwise. We occasionally offer free taster classes or charge a little bit extra to allow us to provide you with more specialist materials to experiment with. Classes can be paid for beforehand via bank transfer (just let us know via email if this is what you’d like to do). Alternatively, if you choose to pay in cash, please bring the exact amount you are paying for, as we rarely have change available.

WHERE DO THE CLASSES TAKE PLACE?

Our Friday Group and majority of our Saturday classes are held in Dalkeith Arts Centre, which you can access through the Dalkeith Library main entrance at 2 White Hart Street, Dalkeith, EH22 1AE.

Every now and then we also venture further afield and set up Saturday classes in beautiful places such as Dalkeith Palace and Dalkeith Country Park. All class locations are specified in the class descriptions.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?

We do not expect you to have everything you’ll need, especially when trying out new techniques, but we welcome you to bring your favourite paints, brushes and other art making tools with you. Pencils and sketch pads are also a useful addition to your art class kit.

For our Saturday classes, the class description will specify what we would like you to bring along for each class to help you make them most of the technique. However, if you are joining us for the first time for either the Friday Group or a Saturday class, we can provide you with all the materials you need to get started.

Our tutors are also happy to share lots of useful tips on what to purchase if you like to keep experimenting with the techniques you’ve learned at home.

I’ve never done an art class before, can I still join in?

We believe art is for everyone and wholeheartedly welcome all experience levels to our classes.

At our Friday group you can choose to join our Newbies table, where our tutor Mary helps you test out different ways to create, find inspiration and discover your inner artist.
